DEBUT: 1999
CURRENT CLUB: Stoke City FC (EPL)
PREVIOUS CLUBS: Tivoli

ACHIEVEMENTS:
|
| |
That Ricardo Fuller is blessed with incredible ball skills is
beyond debate. What makes him even more remarkable are his
resilience and willingness to go the extra mile for his
country. Distinguishing himself for Jamaica at the age group
level Fuller made the progression to the senior team with
ease.
To observers a contract
overseas was a matter of formality and Charlton Athletic soon
came calling. After impressing on trial, scoring with
regularity, his contract was nonetheless revoked as he failed
a medical due to a back injury which required surgery. He
fought his way back to full fitness but was unable to hold
down a place in the club. He moved on to Crystal Palace. He
had corrective surgery and the problem now seems fixed. Sadly,
with Charlton doing fairly well in England, Fuller found
himself out in the cold, as after months of training with the
club, he was released. He soon joined up with Crystal Palace,
his stay there was short-lived.
Other moves saw him becoming
a cult hero at Hearts and Preston North End. He had other
moves to Portsmouth and Southampton before settling at his
current club Stoke City which he propelled to the Premier
League. |

POSITION: Midfielder
CAPS: 30

CURRENT CLUB: Harbour View
PREVIOUS CLUBS: Harbour View, Kansas City Wizards (USMLS)
Mjallby (Sweden),
ACHIEVEMENTS:
Long hailed as the best
midfielder in the country Jermaine has struggled to hold on to
a place in the national squad for one reason or another as
coaches and philosophies change. Chief among the reasons for
his omission was the view that he did not work hard enough.
At 30 years old, he belongs
to the same generation of players as Ricardo Gardner and was a
part of the pool for the 1998 campaign. After being ignored
for the 2002 campaign, playing a central part in the 2006
campaign, Hue finds himself being thrown a lifeline by
Technical Director Rene Simoes.
Hue’s vision, passing
accuracy from close range and over distance are qualities that
the team desperately need at this time and if he could provide
that consistently over time, he may belatedly claim his
position as the country’s midfield general. |

Shawn Sawyers is one of those players who did not shine in
schoolboy football. He started his goalkeeping at Old Brateon
before he was spotted by Portmore United for which he became a
star. Despite being considered as the best goalkeeper in the
country for a number of years, he was unable to break into the
national setup with the likes of Warren Barrett, Aaron
Lawrence and Donovan Ricketts ahead of him. |

Though it has taken him a while, Wolry Wolfe is one of the few
players who have made the transition from the squad of players
which created history when Jamaica qualified for the 2001
Under-20 World Cup in Argentina.
This skilful left-sided
player is capable playing midfield, his best position. Despite
his slender frame he handles and strikes the ball hard. He is
a cousin of fellow national player Omar Cummings and brother
of Rafe and Kemeel Wolfe. |

Made his international debut with a goal against Venezuela on
Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at the National Stadium in Kingston
and almost immediately cemented his place in the hearts of the
people who had been longing for a reliable goal scorer.
He continued his prolific run
during the country’s 2006 World Cup campaign and hit a hat
trick against Haiti in 2004. His goal scoring exploits were
not enough to take the country to its second World Cup. His
stint with the Jamaica team was disrupted in May 2006 when he
was banned for ‘disciplinary reasons’ while the team played a
series of friendlies in England.
That ban which was set to
last until May, 2008, was lifted by JFF president Captain
Horace Burrell on his return to the office in November 2007.
He played in drawn game with Costa Rica in April and supplied
the cross for Jamaica’s goal in the match which ended 1-1. He
captained the team for the first time against Trinidad and
Tobago and capping it off with a lovely goal. |

Achievements: |

Like Tyrone Marshall Andy Williams is a former St Georges
College student and is following in the footsteps of his
father by playing for the Jamaica national team. His father
Maurice “Bobby” Williams was a standout for the country in the
60s.
Andy He made his debut as a
teenager, this after distinguishing himself as a schoolboy
from the Preparatory to the High school level. At the end of
his High school career he accepted a scholarship to the
University of Rhode Island where he again stood out. He
finished as the University’s leading all-time scorer, with 52
goals and 45 assists despite leaving early to join the MLS. He
was also voted to the U.S. Soccer America Collegiate team of
the decade, honoring the top eleven college players of the
1990s.
For the national team he has
been a stalwart, playing a crucial part in especially the
second round of the 1998 World Cup qualifier scoring two
crucial goals. He retired after the 2006 campaign but made it
clear he would willingly to play again after Technical
Director Rene Simoes rejoined the team. He has since played a
friendly against St Vincent and the Grenadines and played in
the two first-round 2010 World Cup against the Bahamas.

CURRENT CLUB: Sheffield Wednesday
PREVIOUS CLUBS: Portsmouth, Cardiff (loan), Derby County,
Barnsley (loan), Stoke (loan), Portsmouth, Walsall (loan),

Achievements: Sportsman of
the year 1997 (Jamaica) |
| |
A
buzz was created in June 1997 when a number of England-based
players paid their way to try out for the Jamaica team. Among
them were Deon Burton, Paul Hall, Fitzroy Simpson and Paul
Hall. Burton in particular impressed the throng of supporters
who turned out to watch the training.
Burton made his Jamaican
debut on 7 September 1997 in the latter stages of their World
Cup qualifying campaign and finished the campaign with four
goals in five games and earned the title of Sportsman of the
Year (2007). His performance also saw him earn selection to a
world team and a dream move to then Premier League team Derby
County.
However, he has failed to
reach those heights since as he failed to score in France. He
also appeared in each of Jamaica's games as they finished
fourth in the 1998 CONCACAF Gold Cup but he failed to score.
Burton was also a part of 2002 campaign but the team failed to
qualify. He was also included in the 2003 Gold Cup but saw
action sparingly before he was dropped.
He had to wait three years
for his next cap - against England. More good form for
Wednesday meant that he was recalled for a friendly match
against Trinidad & Tobago on 27 March 2008.He came on as a
second half substitute for Marlon King in a 2–2 draw. This was
to be his 50th cap. He has shown a renewed hunger and has been
retained in the squad. He played friendly internationals
against St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago
and Grenada as well as the first round 2010 World Cup
qualifiers against the Bahamas. |

ACHIEVEMENTS: |

Along with captain Ricardo Gardner, Deon Burton, Ian Goodison
and Andy Williams, goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts was a part of
the successful 1998 World Cup campaign. Unlike the others,
however, he did not see any action at the finals.
Powerfully-built at just over
six feet four inches tall, Ricketts takes up a lot of space in
goal and will be a big part of the 2010 World Cup campaign for
the South Africa World Cup. He is vastly experienced having
travelled the world with the national team since the 1998
campaign, which should help his and the team’s cause. Though
he recently lost his contract with English club Bradford City
because of a failure to get a work permit, Ricketts could
benefit from remaining at home, training and bonding with the
growing number of local based players. He came through the age
group levels where he was schooled in the art of goalkeeping
by former national goalkeeper and goalkeeper coach Paul
Campbell. |

CURRENT CLUB: Toronto
PREVIOUS CLUBS: Miami Fusion, (MLS, USA,) Colorado Rapids
(MLS, USA), LA Galaxy |

Since his debut in 2000, Tyrone Marshall has become one of the
most important players in the Jamaican team. Capable of
playing almost anywhere in defense or midfield, the challenge
is often to find the position where he serves the team best.
He has featured a left
wingback, right wingback, central defender and central
midfield. What is particularly refreshing about him is his
professionalism and commitment to the national cause.
Marshall, who plays in MLS for Toronto FC after a successful
spell with the LA galaxy, is a former St. Georges College,
Manning Cup representative for which he played in a more
attacking role.
One of Tyrone’s greatest
moments in the national colours was a fantastic strike against
Caribbean arch-rivals Trinidad & Tobago in Jamaica's first
game of the Final Round of qualifying for Korea/Japan at the
National Stadium in Kingston. Trinidadian ‘keeper Shaka Hislop
had no chance.
Months shy of his 34th
birthday, Marshall, whose father Cornell also played for
Jamaica, could be involved in qualifiers for his third and
final World Cup. |

POSITION: Defender
CAPS: 53
GOALS: 2
DEBUT: 1999
CURRENT CLUB: Derby County
PREVIOUS CLUBS: Portmore United, Preston North End, Sheffield

Achievements:
Claude Davis is a mountain of
a man similar in stature and style to his long-time defensive
partner Damion Stewart with whom he has progressed through the
different age group teams into the national team. He is a
decent tackler and is very good in the air.
For a long time he was viewed
as the natural successor to the veteran Ian Goodison as the
rock of the Jamaican defense. He went some way in justifying
the expectation placed on him and could learn even more from
the lion-hearted veteran if he manages to force himself into
the starting team for the remaining three World Cup Qualifiers
in this round.
In the past he was more
impulsive and known to make rash challenges. His sojourn in
the UK has matured him somewhat. |

HEIGHT: 6ft 2in
POSITION: Central Defender
CAPS: 38
GOALS: 2
CURRENT CLUB: Queens Park Rangers (England)
PREVIOUS CLUBS: Harbour View FC, Preston North End
Achievements:
Damion Stewart is strong,
quick, athletic and uncompromising defender who is sometimes
likened to those of the old-school because of his no-nonsense
approach and willingness to clear his lines. Can and has
played at wingback but is most suited for a central defensive
role, a position he has played in the age group teams where he
formed a partnership with Claude Davis.
His omission from the
preceding 2010 World Cup has been puzzling especially because
of his fine form for Queens Park Rangers. He has also managed
it appears to have shed the label of being wild and raw. He is
also a goal scoring threat from set plays. |

ACHIEVEMENTS:
Member of Jamaica’s Under-20
team, which qualified for the World Championship in Argentina
2001.
A tireless worker Omar is a
utility player who has figured in a number of roles for the
Jamaica team at both the Under-20 and the national senior
teams. As a central midfielder he played a key role in
Jamaica’s advancement to the Under-20 World Cup in Argentina
in 2001.
Quick and strong, with and
strong with a good shot out of his right foot and a reasonable
on with the left, Omar is best when attacking though he has
been used as a right wingback and defensive midfielder. This
aggressive player sometimes allows himself to get foolish
yellow cards as he has yet to see a tackle to back out of.
