Coca-Cola
National U-21 League match between Tivoli and Harbour View |
The Coca-Cola National U-21
League will stage Double-Header games at the Drewsland Stadium
(Waterhouse) on Friday, January 11. The opening encounter, at
4:00pm, features Tivoli Gardens vs. Portmore United and the second
game will feature hosts, Waterhouse going up against Reno FC.
Both games promise to be exciting as the four teams involved all
compete strongly and have players that standout.
Tivoli Gardens FC is home to one
of the top goal scorers in the league, Navion Boyd, with 3 goals
from seven games. Boyd is described by his Coach, Desmond Francis,
as being a disciplined and willing centre forward who finishes
well with both feet. He has not yet realised his full potential
but is expected to improve his performance over the season.
Adrian Robinson of Reno FC is
also one the League’s top scorers with 3 goals to date. Coach
Wendell Downswell and Aaron Lawrence both agree that. Robinson is
a disciplined player that displays a great ability to adjust into
any roles that he maybe called on to play. Robinson, who has
represented Jamaica at the National U-20 level, strikes accurately
with both feet and is quite skilful. Mr. Robinson also starts
occasionally in the Reno FC senior team in the Cash Plus Premier
League.
Portmore United Coach Desmond
Smith commended newest forward, Ross Burton for his discipline and
hard work. Burton joined the Portmore United Squad at the start of
the season coming from August Town. Since then, this speedy&
skilful forward has netted twice. Coach Smith also commented that
if Burton were to be a little more composed he would be able to
score more goals.
If a well disciplined forward who
possesses speed with the skill and balance to strike with both
feet is a coach’s dream, then Waterhouse Coach Marcel Gayle is
living his dream. Mr. Gayle lauded one of his forwards, Nicholas
Forbes, in the way quoted above. Though Forbes has only scored
once thus far in the tournament he has proved to be a menace to
many defenders in the League.
