The President of the Jamaica
Football Federation (JFF), Captain Horace Burrell, the Board and
staff of the JFF would like to express condolence to the family,
former teammates, friends and associates of former national
invitee, Portmore United Under-21 and St. Georges College Manning
Cup player Howard Fisher who passed on the morning of Wednesday
February 3, 2010 at the age of 24.
Fisher, a student at Montreat
College in Western Carolina, fell ill during his Christmas holiday
visit to Jamaica and was ultimately diagnosed with aplastic anemia
— a rare and serious disorder in which the bone marrow stops
making enough red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets for
the body.
“It is truly sad to lose one in
the prime of his life and almost without warning. He was so loved
at his school who tried their best to get him back to the US for
treatment and surgery,” said Captain Burrell.
“The finality of death is
something we struggle with as humans especially when it concerns
young people but in the words of God we find refuge. To his
parents and siblings I say take comfort in Psalm 55:22 which says:
“Cast your burden on the LORD, And He shall sustain you; He shall
never permit the righteous to be moved.
Fisher, a Journalism student who
was due to return to the US on January 27 and was set to graduate
on may 22, is survived by mother Hyacinth Fisher, Adalton Fisher ,
three sisters and three brothers. |
