National Women’s Olympic Team head to Cuba Nov. 28 – Dec. 2 for 2nd Round Qualifiers

The Jamaica Football Federation has named an 18 member National Senior Women’s Team that will participate in the Second Round of Caribbean qualification to the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The team was selected from a 23 member training squad that was in preparation between Tuesday, November 20 and Monday, November 26 in Manchester at the Golf View Hotel. The Team departs on November 28 and returns on December 2.

The Reggae Girlz defeated Antigua & Barbuda, Bermuda and Dominica 12-0, 4-0 & 8-0 respectively in the first round of Caribbean qualification.

The Caribbean qualifiers will be decided from a pair of second round match-ups featuring Puerto Rico vs. Trinidad & Tobago November 23 & 25 which saw Trinidad progressing 3-1 on aggregate. Cuba will host Jamaica November 28 - December 2 with the winner advancing to the CONCACAF Final Round along with Trinidad.

Mexico will host the 2008 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Final Round Qualification which will run from April 2-13, 2008. The six-team tournament will be held at the Estadio Olimpico Universitario in Chihuahua, Mexico with the top two teams qualifying for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

The 2008 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Final Round will include the defending champion, USA along with North Zone representatives Canada and Mexico, recently qualified Central American side Costa Rica, plus two teams from the Caribbean.
