Coach Theodore “Tappa “Whitmore will be coaching the Reggae Boyz for the 50th time as Jamaica open their account in the 2012 Caribbean Cup against French Guiana. The other teams in Jamaica’s group are Martinique and Cuba. The 4 semi-finalists from the Caribbean Cup will automatically qualify for the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup next summer. They will join Mexico, USA and Canada as well as 5 Central American Qualifiers.

Coach Whitmore has coached 49 games for Jamaica. In this process he has 29 wins, 5 draws and 15 losses dating back since November 2007. The last time Jamaica played French Guiana was back in the Digicel Cup in 2004-05 in a playoff series where Jamaica won 5-0 at home and a week later drew 0-0 in French Guiana.

Jamaica is on the hunt for their 6th Caribbean Cup title and their 3rd in a row. Only Trinidad and Tobago has accomplished this feat. With Jamaica still having euphoria over having 50 years of independence, bringing home the Caribbean Cup title would put the icing on the cake for 2012
